sailors!
We had a goodbye lunch for my boss earlier this week. Went to a local restaurant which had ok food but it was the walk that I will remember. Snow on the mountaintops and the autumn sun shining brilliantly on us. It changed just as quickly to give us a grey dreariness that I'm sitting in today.
Earlier this week, 4 naval ships arrived from Korea. I was walking around prior to work in the morning on Tuesday when I saw all these uniformed guys *swoon* dressed in black with white caps on the officers' heads trying to properly anchor their ship. Ahhh... there must have been a couple of hundred men. There were tours for the ships open to the public but my schedule did not allow me to visit. :P
Of interest was the reading I obtained on Wednesday. I'm at a 9 for work...10 is when I quit. Other things were confirmed for me and I do look forward to moving on although that scares me a bit too. A whole foreign city where I know no one... assuming the job is given to me!

hunting for work
Am looking for work in other cities. East Coast. West Coast. The possibilities are endless. I'm thinking Boston, or New York City, or DC...
Aunt J. arrived today from Toronto and we went out for dinner. Had a good long chat with her to prepare for interviews. She herself flew out here for one that she's prepping for so we discussed methods. Tomorrow it'll be brunch and then I'll probably spend time prepping for this interview that I've got! Wish me luck.

burnt
I cannot believe the inattention or carelessness of myself. Was ironing last night and went through 2 shirts. On the 3rd, I must have pressed a little too hard, or too long and there it was. The material seared right off to produce multipile holes...right on the front of my shirt by the seam. It was one of my favourite shirts no less. I hadn't burned a shirt in 4 years and it's come down to this. I was so bummed. The only consolation is that it isn't brand new and that I've worn it quite a bit. Don't know if it's salvagable...maybe if I wore it under a sweater or jacket. *sigh* I should have known! I had a hot chocolate because it was cold and I burned my tongue...that was my warning.
Speaking of cold, there is a first dusting of snow on the mountain tops...!!

wasted time
Last night, I went to my tap class only to find my teacher was sick so they had a sub....who really sucked. She was a young girl who hadn't tapped for 5 years. We had to show her the steps. I wanted to leave but felt it would be rude to do so. The other woman felt the way. The other two girls didn't care - probably cuz they weren't paying for their classes. I will definitely
Sometimes I feel that way about work. Still trying to plow my way through...

a little bit of country
I flew out early on Sat. morning to Calgary to visit a friend. Spent the majority of the weekend watching tons of flicks and shopping. Came back with a load of loot. :) It averaged out to one item per day. :) And that was holding back. I could have gone and spent a boatload more. But really, what else is there to do in cowtown? The weather wasn't so great the first day - a bit rainy like Vancouver - and then it cleared up and was nice but windy. Ah. Fall weather for ya. Leaves had all fallen down all around and it looked like the dead of winter. Lack of moisture in the air can do that to the poor trees. *sigh* I am glad to be back.

and the winner is...
So they finally sent out an email today saying who the new person taking over our department is. There were four candidates that were brought in on Monday and they each toured the department before doing their one hour interview. My boss told me she thought they would have chosen from the first two. They chose from the last two. I found out yesterday who it would be through my sneaking around...I'd say I was resourceful...but anyway. The final annoucement was today. I guess they wanted it finalized on paper before saying anything because the last person who they offered the position to turned it down and we were all expecting her to come. That was back in April. We've been without for this many months. My boss has been working on and off here and there. I have to say that I'm a little surprised with who they chose. She may have the background necessary but my dealings with her have always tended to be abrupt and a teeny bit unpleasant. She starts in November. We'll see what goes on between now and then. I've started looking elsewhere too...

compliments for the chameleon
I got a few compliments today on my hair style. Ran into one of the secretaries, H, in the washroom and she exclaimed, "Oh you always get the coolest hair styles." We started chatting about it and then someone from HR exits a stall. I'm thinking to myself how it would look so terrible that I'm all about appearances. *sigh* Anyway, I forgot to mention the weirdo I ran into after I finished the prep on Sunday.
I went to wait at the bus stop. Was early about 20 minutes and sat down by myself. I look up when someone approaches. It's a guy - 40 maybe - and he smiles so I return the smile. Then he sits down beside me and says hi how are you? I answer fine and look away. Then he continues to chat asking me my name and then says "you're so pretty" *shiver* I up and leave. He shouts after me, "Hey, you don't have to worry, I won't hurt you." I walk and walk. As long as you look like you have a place to go, it's fine. It's when you are a captive audience that people start talking to you. I walked to a few stops before and waited there with some other people. When the bus finally swung by my original stop, the guy was nowhere to be found. I'm not sure if he was waiting for the bus at all or if he was a homeless person or what, but it was unnerving at 4:30 in the afternoon on a sunny Sunday.

reinventing myself
again. i have fringe bangs now. asymetrical ones, mind you. longer on the left...which isn't even the way i normally comb my hair! i spent almost a whole day waiting for the colour and cut. we are doing a show tomorrow at the roundhouse and i will be a cut model. i have a band of red colour across my forehead and i look like i have a mushroom bowl cut but it's a cool cut and at least the girl didn't use any product in my hair, which hopefully means i won't have to either!!
