whirlwind week

Last week was absolutely nuts with all the activities I had going on - dance every night almost and then yoga, pilates and swimming. I was completely wiped. Am still trying to recover from all of this but things are a bit better this week. minutely.

family day

I can't believe I spent most of the day doing family things. My cousin, B, was back from Chicago for the weekend. I hadn't seen him in over a year so we had dimsum lunch. Was driven out of bed around 9 and at the restaurant by 10:45. Didn't get back home til nearly 2pm. Then headed out for dinner in the evening around 5:30 and didn't get back til 8:30. Dinner was with my cousin visiting from HK. Hadn't seen him in 4 years. Good times I suppose but...so much food, and so much time!

shipping news

The crystal ball has cracked. I know it's silly to rely on what a reader has said but this has been crushingly disappointing. Found out today that I did not get accepted to do the cultural exchange that I was so hoping would rescue me from my work. Just found out when I checked the website to find out who had been selected. It wasn't even posted yesterday. 2 others were selected from this province. Aye-me. :(

ms. diana cooper

Work has been going as usual and I have been fine but I wanted to share some sad news. I was chatting with my friend and he asked me to check out a link. Turns out it was to a page on the UBC site saying that the flag was at half mast for ms. diana cooper. She was a librarian at the fine arts division while I was at school. I worked with her. I couldn't believe the news...just shocked. She was such a lovely lady and cheerful too. I haven't spoken to her in a couple of years but I am just so sad about this. I will miss her. Here's to a great and gracious lady.

craziness

I can't believe time is just flying by. Since I last wrote, I've gone to the PNE, seen two shows (one musical "Suds", the other, a play "No. 14") both of which were great, seen the sandcastles at Harrison Hot Springs and had someone at work ask for my hair dresser because she liked the way it was cut! I also had to pass up another L'Oreal class for next week; told the lady I just had my hair done and didn't want to get it coloured so soon. She said she'd keep me in mind for the next event, an actual show. I really want to do that one as I can get a proper cut out of it as well. We'll see. I've also attended two family birthday dinners - one was for my aunt on my mom's side, the other was for my uncle on my dad's. Both were really long dinners - my uncle's was 3 hours long and way too much for me to handle but family's family. I've also managed a tandem bike ride out at Stanley Park on Labour Day, as well as a trip to Capilano Suspension Bridge to see their new tree top adventures. Life is whizzing by...just waiting for it to slow down a little so I can catch my breath!

josh

I went to see Josh Groban with my mother - we got to our box early and one of the partners was there with his lovely wife. Then came the food - one of the highlights for me - a sushi platter, cheese and fruit, a spinach dried apple salad, deep fried prawns, chicken strips, ribs, and pork plus hors d'ouevres of smoked salmon on crackers and tuna cupcakes. It was absolutely fantastic. Then came eclairs and cheesecake for dessert, which I passed on. There was so much left over he urged me to bring some home and I ended up taking two slices of cheese and all meats but the prawns which were all eaten up.

We hadn't realized there was an opening act for Josh - a William Joseph. At first I was groaning. He was to open at 8, have a 30 min. intermission at 8:30 and then Josh was supposed to start at 9. Turned out the guy was a brilliant pianist and had worked with David Foster and recorded and released his first album just a few weeks ago.

Josh was great. He was far away tiny but we had binoculars. What can I say? It was much better than I thought it would be considering we were in such a terrible 'theatre' of General Motors Place. We left around 10:30 after several encores. I hate those pre-fabricated encores but anyway, I digress. Fantastic night. Will be listening to his music again soon on the CDs I own. :)
